Yes,  sometimes outside influences pull our lives off track. Yet more often than not, we are the ones who hinder our success. Sadly, this trap is ridiculously easy to fall into. But, you can prevent or escape it just by knowing the signs of self-sabotaging…

5 Signs of Self-Sabotaging to Watch Out For

As I mentioned earlier, many people stand in the way of their full potential.  I wondered why this was so common for a long time. Then, I had a huge realization…

EVERY DECISION YOU MAKE EITHER BUILDS YOUR EMPIRE OR DESTROYS IT.

The idea sounded scary to me at first. It haunted me everywhere like Poe’s pounding heart under the floorboard. That is until I figured out something else…

If it is simple to mess things up, it is just as simple to rebuild them.

Keep that in mind as we go through these signs of self-sabotaging.

Making Bad Choices from Drug & Alcohol Use

One of the major signs of self-sabotaging is reckless behavior under the influence.

The more you grow into the best version of yourself, the more responsibility you take on. Others become dependent on you and you need to make good choices — fast.

DRUGS AND ALCOHOL AFFECT YOUR AWARENESS AND SLOW YOU DOWN — EVEN IF YOU PARTAKE “RESPONSIBLY.”

I encourage you to write down every time being inebriated caused a negative effect. After, write down how it would have been different if you were sober.

The results will be eye-opening.

Not Being Trustworthy from Gossiping

Trust me, people who are actively building a legacy, have no time or interest in petty drama…

Furthermore, people become wary of you if you participate in it.

No great empire or organization has been built without a strong team of allies. How can you expect to inspire loyalty if everyone believes you’ll betray their trust?

Gossip can seem interesting at the time, but it is usually untrue and negative. Don’t invite that into your life.

Focusing on Problems — Not Solutions

By and large, wallowing in your problem doesn’t get anything done. I know that you may be thinking that just “being depressed” can’t be one of the signs of self-sabotaging.

Well, no

But sitting there spreading unhappiness and not changing is. It’s like the old saying goes:

IT’S BETTER TO LIGHT A CANDLE THAN TO CURSE THE DARKNESS.

Even if the problem is difficult, taking action to solve it can make a real difference. It all begins with how you can stop living in the past.

And the path out of that is knowing where you want to go…

Having No Purpose

I believe that your purpose is something sacred…

When you don’t know or fully define your purpose, you’re going to fill your time with pointless distractions. Also, I’m willing to bet those distractions are self-sabotaging ones.

Additionally, you’re more likely to ignore responsibilities and targets without a purpose. That’s why it creates a “what does it matter”  sort of attitude about everything.

Your purpose is what will get you through the dark and difficult times. Find it, then nurture it with actions that show the world who you are…

You Can “Stop Any Time,” But Won’t

Previously, we talked about one of the extreme signs of self-sabotaging — drugs and alcohol. But what about other harmful activities that seem like innocent indulgences?

For example, spending an excessive amount of time on social media…

Spending too much money on things you don’t need…

Or, it could just be you get home and watch hours and hours of TV every night…

At a glance, there is nothing wrong with scrolling through TikTok, a new pair of shoes, or watching a couple of episodes of “The Bachelor.”

HOWEVER, IT IS A PROBLEM WHEN THESE ACTIVITIES ARE THE ENTIRETY OF YOUR LIFE — AND YOU CANNOT STOP.

Take a look at what your average day looks like. Notice if breaking certain patterns allows you to better use your time.

Being aware of these unflattering traits doesn’t feel good for anyone. However, the last thing you should do is run and hide…

These Signs of Self-Sabotaging Do NOT Define You

If you see one or all of these signs of self-sabotaging in yourself, that doesn’t make you a failure. In fact, I have made my way through the entirety of this list throughout my life…

INCLUDING HARD DRUGS AND ALCOHOL!

The fact that you are reading this now shows you are ready to create the life you deserve. Every moment and decision from here on out is an opportunity to empower the real you.

Take advantage of it and build an empire.
