Time For Kids

On the third day of 10X Growth Con, Elena and I got to interview our friends, Jesse Itzler and Sara Blakely. We discussed what it takes behind the scenes for a successful business and home life. Here is how these billionaires make time for their kids…

If you were to look up the term “power couple” in the dictionary, you’d see a picture of Jesse Itzler and Sara Blakely.

Itzler founded the lucrative Marquis Jet private aviation company…

Sara created and funded the revolutionary SPANX brand with $5K and a dream…

And somehow, these two BILLIONAIRES found each other, fell in love, and have four children — all while creating more wealth.

Since this wasn’t Elena and my first time sitting down with these two, I asked how parenting fit into their hectic schedule…

Jesse Itzler’s #1 Way He Makes Time for His Kids

Jesse was the first one to respond after I asked the question with this…

“MY #1 RULE OF THUMB IS I’M NEVER TOO TIRED FOR MY KIDS… IF I’M TOO TIRED TO SPEND TIME WITH MY KIDS, MY WORK-LIFE BALANCE IS OFF.”

At the same time, Itzler emphasized quality over quantity when it comes to his kids. That’s when he broke down the 100-Hour Rule.

According to this principle, if you spend 100 hours a year…

Which is 18 minutes a day in any practice…

You will be better than 95% of the rest of the world in that practice.

BEING CONSISTENT IN HOW YOU MAKE TIME FOR YOUR KIDS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN LONG STRETCHES.

However, Sara chimed in on the importance of awareness as an entrepreneurial parent…

Sara Blakely on AWARENESS as a Parent

Equally important, Blakely noted that one of the hardest things she learned about being a business owner and mom was awareness…

SARA SAYS THAT YOU HAVE TO BE AWARE OF YOUR NEEDS AS WELL AS THE KIDS NEEDS.

The SPANX founder explained that when she first became a mother, she was faced with a lot of conflicts.

When she was at work, she felt guilty about not making more time for the kids…

When she was at home, she felt neglectful of her company…

Ultimately, Sara Blakely states she needed to know for herself what she needed to prioritize to be a great parent and businesswoman.

Of course, there is more to parenting as a billionaire than “work-life balance”

How Much Time Do You NEED to Make for Kids?

You’ve heard Jesse Itzler and Sara Blakely’s methods on how to make time for your kids. But is there a certain amount of time you should aim for?

In the end, the example you lead for your children will be more valuable than the amount of time you spent playing catch….

That goes for whether you’re a billionaire or not.

Be a Great Role Model for Your Kids,
