netflix advertising

Netflix, thanks to a spectacular earnings report, has been crowned the king of the streaming wars. But they’ve been facing some trouble in paradise, thanks to their advertising practices…

Specifically in Vietnam.

Here’s what you need to know.

Vietnamese Government Orders Netflix To Halt Advertising Practices

Back in 2021, Netflix added an original roster of video games to its subscription benefits. Since then, the streamer has been advertising Netflix games on their own application as well as others.

However, the Vietnamese government has ordered the streamer to cease these advertisements.

Due to a lack of a proper game license, a statement from a broadcasting authority continues:

“WE ORDER NETFLIX TO STOP ADVERTISING AND PUBLISHING THE NETFLIX’S VIDEO GAMES ON THE NETFLIX APPLICATION AND ON APPSTORE VIETNAM AND GOOGLE PLAY STORE VIETNAM BEFORE APRIL 25,”

And this is not the first time something like this has happened to the streaming kings. Multiple times now, Vietnam has blocked (or attempted to block) access to different content provided by Netflix.

Netflix has not yet responded regarding its advertising

But according to Reuters, the company is planning on opening offices in Vietnam.

Safe to say, it seems that the future tensions between the streamer and the nation are up for debate.

Be Great,
