rock band kiss

After years of rocking and rolling all night, its curtain call for one of the most iconic bands in music history. But it’s not all over for Kiss, the stellar rock band

When their final tour closed out, the band announced they were selling their music catalog to a Stockholm-based company.

What does this mean for the future of the band?

Kiss: The Virtual Rock Band?

Hot off the heels of their retirement tour, The End Of The Road Tour, the painted-faced rock band, Kiss, sold their brand to Pophouse. But it wasn’t just the iconic branding that was sold…

The deal, which is worth upwards of an estimated $300 million, sold off the band’s:

  • Song catalog
  • Intellectual property
  • Likeness

The Swedish investors, Pophouse, have struck deals with artists of similar fame

Most notably, Eurovision darlings, ABBA. With that sale in particular, Pophouse created the ABBA Voyage shows…

In which holograms of the pop sensations “performed” while a live band backed them up.

This acquisition of the Kiss brand will allow the firm to create similar spectacles with the rock band. Not only are the hologram shows already being planned, but the deal will also mean that Pophouse can create AI-generated Kiss content.

As strange as AI performances sound, it will not be the first time a legendary band dabbles in the technology. The Beatles were able to complete their final song thanks to AI.

Gods Of Thunder And Branding

Details of the Kiss deal haven’t been fully revealed, but two original members of the rock band, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons

Are closely involved and have a say regarding the future of any Kiss branding.

Speaking of branding, this is not a wholly unusual move on the bands’ behalf. After all, they are the masters of licensing, with over 5000 branded items in their extensive history.

With a legacy spanning over 50 years and a look that anyone can recognize…

It might be the end of the road for the band

But they’ll always drive us wild and keep us shoutin’.

Be Great,
