As Q1 comes to a close, the statistics are rolling in. And, industry titans are proving to have chips in their armor. One such example is Apple sales being overtaken by South Korean competitor, Samsung. Is this another sign of things to come — or just business as usual?
Numbers Don’t Lie…
Believe it or not, Samsung was the world’s number-one smartphone seller for 12 years until 2023. At this point, Apple sales finally pushed ahead of Android’s smartphone numbers.
However, the iPhone manufacturer’s dominance was short-lived…
To be specific, 289.4 million smartphones were shipped globally from January to March 2024…
OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF PHONES, 20.8% WERE SAMSUNGS AS OPPOSED TO 17.3% BEING IPHONES.
This was the largest drop in Apple smartphone sales since supply chain issues in 2022. But let’s not mince words here.
The tech giant has been struggling over the past few months.
Between mass Apple Vision Pro returns…
And ceasing development on Project Titan, investors are getting nervous.
Nevertheless, these are not the reasons that Apple sales are down for their popular iPhones…
What’s Impacting Apple Sales?
The fact of the matter is that there is the same thorn in both Apple’s and Samsung’s sides. It just so happens that it is affecting Android less significantly at the moment.
IT IS COMPETITION FROM CHINA ALONGSIDE ITS CHANGING LEGISLATURE.
First, Chinese smartphone companies — Xiaomi and Huawei — have gained traction in the marketplace…
Further, lawmakers in China want to pass laws where foreign-manufactured devices would be banned in the workplace.
It is for these reasons that Samsung and Apple are in a tug-of-war for the leader in sales. Still, both companies will have to weather the changes in the Chinese markets — if or when they come.
Be Great,
