Two Japan-based giants in the tech and auto industries — Sony and Honda — are partnering up to make and sell electric vehicles.
According to Reuters, Japanese companies Honda and Sony recently announced a new partnership in the making.
While the joint venture is still in the works, the two mega-brands intend to build and commercialize electric vehicles (EVs) together.
The information comes as a result of a memorandum of understanding that both Honda and Sony have signed.
Honda x Sony electric vehicles by 2025
In a press release published on the official Sony website, the brands detail their “strategic alliance in the field of mobility.” For the partnership, the two massive Japanese companies will form a new business entity within 2022.
In addition, the first electric vehicle from the joint company is due to hit the market in 2025.
Overall, the collaboration brings together the companies’ auto and tech expertise. The purpose is to create “a new generation of mobility and services that are closely aligned with users and the environment”.
“The new company will aim to stand at the forefront of innovation, evolution, and expansion of mobility around the world.”— Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President, Representative Executive Officer and CEO, Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
Earlier this year, Sony presented the VISION-S 02 S.U.V. concept, announcing their auto industry objectives. However, instead of going through the process alone, the brand decided to partner with a respected auto manufacturer.
By now, many other tech giants have struggled with creating EVs on their own. As a result of the Sony-Honda strategic partnership, the two brands are projected to bring a successful product to market.
The impact of massive partnerships
This goes to show how powerful joining forces with established brands, companies, and even people can be.
While the world looks forward to Honda-Sony electric vehicles, make sure you get yourself in the right room with the right people for your own business success.
