Krispy Kreme

The hit sitcom “Friends” just hit its 30th anniversary and to celebrate, Krispy Kreme created a donut selection inspired by the iconic series

Little did they know this promotion would open the floodgates of angry fans voicing their frustrations all over the country…

Here’s what went down…

Krispy Kreme’s “Friends” Promotion: A Moo Point

When Krispy Kreme announced this collaboration…

They didn’t know that this was the one where they got a lot of angry fans.

The donuts featured in the collaboration call back to some of the most iconic moments of the series. Some of the donuts include:

  • “Trifle,” a strawberry and custard-filled donut, which is bound to taste better than the series’s failed dessert.
  •  “We Were On A Coffee Break,” a coffee-flavored donut that references one of the biggest debates in the show.
  • “Friends,” a chocolate glazed donut with the iconic fountain from the show’s opening credits.

The donuts are not the issue, however…

FANS ARE UPSET THAT THE DONUTS ARE EXCLUSIVELY AVAILABLE IN THE UK AND IRELAND.

American fans are furious with the news. Many argue that while the show is popular worldwide, it is unequivocally an American sitcom…

After all, the entire show takes place in New York City.

The promotion is part of Krispy Kreme’s attempts to bring customers back to their stores. By this logic, a collaboration with one of the biggest sitcoms in the world is a good move (sorry Seinfeld).

But it seems like the brand might need to PIVOT

Trifling With The Wrong Fans

Fans online have voiced their confusion and frustration regarding Krispy Kreme’s decision to have the donuts unavailable on their home turf. And as one fan put it, it’s just a bad business move.

One commenter under a post about the promotion…

“ARE WE GOING TO GET THE FRIENDS DONUTS IN THE US? LOTS OF FRIENDS FANS HERE WHO WOULD LOVE TO SPEND THEIR MONEY.”

It hurts because it’s true.

Promotions and partnerships are always a surefire way to win back old customers and reach new ones. Earlier this year, Krispy Kreme struck a deal with McDonald’s to sell donuts at the Golden Arches.

But who knows if “Friends” fans will let this one go…

So far, executives at the krispy Kreme have kept quiet about whether the promotion is coming to the states or not.

For fans of the sitcom and the donut makers…

This situation stinks worse than smelly cat.

Be Great,
