John Maxwell knows better than anyone how a good mentor can shape not just your career, but your entire future. Finding a good mentor can be a challenge but is absolutely essential. During his keynote speech, he shared that prioritizing growth is not a solitary pursuit…
“I’VE BEEN PASSIONATE AND HAD A SYSTEM OF PERSONAL GROWTH ALL MY LIFE I’VE BEEN VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT MY PERSONAL GROWTH. MENTORING, WHAT THEY SHOWED ME HAS ALLOWED ME TO WHERE I AM TODAY.”
But beyond just wanting to “grow”, Maxwell was telling the audience that the work of bettering yourself never ends… and it’s never easy. Many people think that growth and learning just come with age.
How many times have you heard “You’ll understand when you’re older”? The truth is that improving yourself takes a lot more than just waiting to get old. John mentions that in his speech:
YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND GROWTH IS NOT AUTOMATIC, YOU DON’T GROW YOURSELF. GETTING OLDER IS AUTOMATIC, GETTING BETTER IS INTENTIONAL.
Be CLEAR
For your own success, according to John Maxwell, you need to be growth-oriented. To do that, remember you need to be CLEAR:
- Communication: be intentional in how you communicate.
- Leadership: Everything rises and falls on leadership.
- Equipping: Equip yourself with a good team
- Attitude: Overcome adversity and keep up a good attitude
- Relationships: You can’t do it all alone, nurture your relationships with people you can rely on.
