It’s 100% clear at this point that social media is here to stay. It doesn’t just affect the way we interact with each other. It affects how we do business as well. That makes the question, “Who are you, really?” and a focus on personal branding more important than ever.

You see my YouTube channel with over 2 million subscribers, my Instagram with family photos, and information about my businesses.
This is because I focused and worked on my personal brand from the advent of social media. I’m going to share what has worked for me from the beginning.
Check yourself out
The first thing you need to do when building a personal brand is to see where you are now.
What does your social media presence say about you?
Your personal branding is determined by the big picture painted by your online presence. I’ve even known girls to check out whether they’ll go on a date based on how someone looks online.
On a bigger scale, companies do these same searches to determine if they want to partner with individuals for business deals.
You want your online posts to reflect these things. Your:
- Values
- Purpose
- Story
These things will lay the groundwork for your personal brand.
Personal branding and authenticity
I have always held the belief that people follow people, not companies.
Look at people like Elon Musk or Steve Jobs who are inseparable from their respective companies. It is this same concept that makes influencer marketing work so well.
That being said, I’m going to give you some advice that no other personal branding article will.
Be authentic and human.
This means not hiding your mistakes.
Address them and be truthful. This will get you more respect than being what you are not.
So, who are you, really?
You have to know that if you’re going to master personal branding.
