Everything — and I mean everything — falls and lands on leadership. It’s something my biggest and most trusted mentor, John C. Maxwell, always says. And the three lids play a big part in becoming an exceptional leader.

In Dr. Maxwell’s best-selling book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, he talks about “The Law of the Lid”.

It’s important to know that you have to elevate your three lids if you want to find success in leadership and in business.

You see, if you lift your belief structure, then your actions will follow what you believe. It’s that simple.

A closer look at the three lids

Keep in mind, if you want to become a remarkable leader, you need to understand that they work together. Because you can’t have one without the other when you’re in business. You have to have all three.

The Belief Lid is about what can be done.

Then, The Operational Effectiveness Lid asks how well you are doing it, how effective you and your team are at accomplishing your goals. How accountable are you at making sure you continue to work at perfecting the process and the approach?

The third one, The Leadership Lid, is dramatically affected based on your ability to lead, challenge, and hold your team accountable.

When you put them together — The Belief Lid, The Operational Effectiveness Lid, and The Leadership Lid — you see that they have to work together to create a transformational business. Only then will you understand exactly where to focus your efforts and your energy to be a successful leader.

And here’s the thing — this is only ONE of the 21 laws.

But it all starts here, with the first law — The Law of the Lid.
