I first heard it from the business guru Peter Drucker, who said…
“What gets measured, gets managed.”
Those 5 simple words are one of the few true secrets to my success.
Here’s what it means…
In order to get where you want to go, there are just 2 simple steps…
- Figure out the key action that will get you to your goal.
- Measure your action taken every day.
You can do it on giant monitors like we have in my offices. You can do it on a white board. Or you can do it on the back of a napkin – doesn’t matter.
Here’s an example…
Want to grow your sales?
If you or your team is in outbound sales, the key number you want to watch is the number of dials.
So, if you write the number of dials on a whiteboard… and keep track of them every single day – your sales WILL go up.
It’s like magic.
When you hold yourself or your team accountable for the number of dials they make every day… sales go up.
What happens when you max on the number of dials?
Then measure how many pitches you make.
And so on.
Setting KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) like this… and measuring them every day works.
