Immortality doesn’t have to be an unattainable myth. However, you have to confront physical death to make it happen. In this spirit — forgive the pun — I developed the obituary exercise to live forever.

I don’t mean to be morbid. But regardless of how it sounds, there will come a day when your body will no longer be here.

Will your empire continue when that day comes?

It can — with the obituary exercise I first shared in my book, Build an Empire.

Why I’m having you think “beyond the grave”

First, I feel like you need to understand the logic behind this obituary exercise.

The reason is simple. If you are not looking towards the future of your empire, you think that you have all the time in the world. That puts no urgency behind your actions and you become stagnant.

I want to light a fire under you to create an empire that lasts forever.

I want you to have an empire that benefits your family, friends, and strangers for all time.

Let’s take the first step to you living forever.

Dig deep and do the “Obituary Exercise”

  1. Write down how your obituary would read if you were to pass away today. What would it say? Would you have accomplished all you wanted? What would you have left behind?
  1. Now, write your obituary as if you passed away in a decade, in 20, or even 30 years. How would people talk about you? What contributions could you make to the world? I bet this second one sounds a lot better.
  1. Third is the most important step. Figure out what actions you need to take to make sure that second obituary is the one that is written about you. Then, start on those actions right now.

That’s all there is to the obituary exercise. You can have a legacy that lasts forever, where your name will be synonymous with success. People have done it before and will do it again. There is no reason you can’t do it.
