AI For Social Media

The head honchos of the Metaverse are implementing new measures to identify AI on social media easily. There are many moving parts and questions in the current climate of law trying to keep up with technology. But most importantly… Will it make a difference in the end?

Meta Trying to Get Ahead of AI POLITICAL Manipulation…

On February 6th, Meta announced in a blog it would enact “labeling measures” for posts with artificial intelligence.

These tags will show whether or not an image on their platforms was created with AI. The new AI rules for social media are to prevent misinformation over the upcoming election year.

NOW, AUTOGENERATION TOOLS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE USED FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES BY NATURE…

Nonetheless, investigations found AI like ChatGPT can be used to create political messages. As such, the social media conglomerate is trying to get ahead of the issue.

Meta’s Affairs President, Nick Clegg, wrote:

“We’re taking this approach through the next year, during which a number of important elections are taking place around the world. During this time, we expect to learn much more about how people are creating and sharing AI content, what sort of transparency people find most valuable, and how these technologies evolve.”

It appears that the Metaverse is trying to make information easier to verify on social media. That being said, there are vital missing pieces despite its efforts…

What the New Rules for AI on Social Media LEAVES OUT

While it is admirable that Meta is looking to create transparency, these rules fail to cover an important element of the problem…

PROPERLY IDENTIFYING VIDEOS AND AUDIO CREATED WITH AI ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

However, creators of these posts must add disclaimers. And face penalties for failing to do so…

BUT OVERALL, IT’S SIMILAR TO AN “HONOR SYSTEM” UNLESS THE CONTENT IS REPORTED.

And,  video deep fakes have been how viral misinformation spreads — historically.

In fact, CNN reported Meta’s Oversight Board will allow a manipulated video of President Biden to remain online due to loopholes in their rules…

All in all, the result is that voters will have to be hypervigilant of the information on social media despite labeling requirements…

Because it is difficult to tell if it’s AI.

Be Great,
