Best Mom Ever Did

What was the best thing my mom ever did for me? The answer will surprise you…

She didn’t even recognize me when I got out of the hospital.

“You’re no longer welcome in my home,” my mother told me that day.  “I don’t want to see you anymore.”

Sounds harsh, but I have her and this terrible experience to thank for my personal, financial, and business successes today.

I’ll tell you why in a minute.  First, here’s what happened.

I was 23 years old. I was $40,000 in debt, and I couldn’t hold down a job…

If you didn’t already know, I had a terrible drug problem for 10 years.

And unlike today, I had zero good connections and a bunch of terrible friends.

So one rainy Louisiana night, I’d failed yet again to quit drugs.

The bad company I talked about? They broke into the tiny duplex I was living in at the time.

One guy held a 45-caliber pistol to my face. And when I fought back, he beat me to a pulp.

When he was done with me, my blood was on the walls and ceiling.

Finally, they ransacked the house, robbed me, and left me for dead.

When I got out of the hospital. My mother decided enough was enough. 24 hours later, I entered a treatment center.

I stayed for 30 days and for the first time in my life, I was able to quit drugs successfully.

But I was terrified to return to society when my insurance ran out because EVERYONE I knew was using drugs: my friends, my girlfriend, and even my co-workers.

There were 3 IMPORTANT things that my near-death experience taught me…

  • #1 I had to cut off all my bad friends (or were they enemies?), no matter how difficult it was.
  • #2 I had to start over with BETTER connections. Even if it meant I had to start from zero.
  • #3 I needed to surround myself with people who were like my mom and had the courage to push me and get me back on track.

(How many of you have people like that in your lives?)

So every moment I could, I made phone calls.  I traveled to different cities to meet people.  I got into the right rooms and talked to the right people.

To this day, I still make sure to get around people more successful than me. I take their words as gospel because my network IS my net worth.

And thanks to the right connections, I went on to write 8 bestselling business books, have multiple income streams, and build a $5 billion portfolio of multifamily properties from scratch.

Most importantly, instead of trading my time for money, I get to cherish every living moment I have with my beautiful wife and 2 lovely daughters.

So here’s my QUESTION for you today:

How do YOU get in the right rooms QUICKLY, with the RIGHT kinds of people who will change your life?

I plan to do that by inviting the biggest names in business and tech into the room with me, such as Marc Randolph, the co-founder of Netflix, and Adam Cheyer, the co-creator of Siri…

Look, it’s not your fault that no one gave you the connections, tools, and strategies you need to take control of your personal and professional goals, your finances, your career, and your business.

But it’s not okay to stay that way when the opportunity to CHANGE comes knocking on your door.

Come April 8th, I want you to get in the RIGHT room with me and the most brilliant business minds of our time at my 10X Business Summit.

Be Great,

Grant Cardone
