If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I firmly believe that women can achieve the same greatness that men have. I believe that equality is absolutely essential to creating a just and moral society…
So imagine my delight when I learned that 2024 so far has been a record-breaking year for women’s sports. All around the world sports fans are starting to acknowledge the power of these women in their respective sports…
And the money is following too.
Here are some stand-out examples I wanted to share that demonstrate perfectly that when women fully dedicate themselves to their craft…
Sport, or otherwise…
Financial freedom and success will ALWAYS follow.
The Business Of Women’s Sports
Historically speaking, women’s sports have struggled to get to the same level as men’s sports in terms of finances and popularity…
Meaning that women’s leagues got less air-time and resources than their counterparts.
But this year, for the first time ever…
WOMEN’S ELITE SPORTS REVENUE IS SET TO CROSS THE BILLION-DOLLAR MARK.
A big chunk of that is thanks to the growing interest in the National Women’s Soccer League…
Especially from the private equity firms that are helping fuel higher team valuations.
All of this helps more women achieve the dreams that they are passionate about while empowering and inspiring other women to do the same.
And the attention isn’t just on soccer…
All women’s sports are getting a massive boost in attention and viewership.
And in some cases, it’s all thanks to one phenomenal player.
The Caitlyn Clark Effect
In the world of women’s sports, collegiate leagues have always played second fiddle.
But thanks to Caitlyn Clark, attention towards women’s basketball leagues has only exploded…
Both professionally and at the college level.
If you haven’t heard of this young woman, you may have been living under a rock this year…
Because both die-hard basketball fans and casual observers have become hypnotized by her skill.
Clark has broken hundreds of all-time records while playing in Division I and analysts are calling her one of the best players the sport has seen in decades…
TALK ABOUT STAR POWER
And with more eyes on the game, more money is coming in. It is a business after all!
Because of Clark’s performance, her team was able to sell out all of their home games and all but two away games.
And if that wasn’t impressive enough, over 12.3 million viewers tuned in to watch Clark’s victory over the LSU team in the Elite Eight…
MAKING IT THE MOST-WATCHED WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL GAME IN HISTORY.
This proves that women’s excellence goes beyond just what women can do…
But what they can do for their field as a whole.
And that’s not all…
Women’s sports also dominated at the Olympics this year.
Spotlight On Women At The Olympics
Here’s a major fact…
The 2024 Olympics was the first time in history that the number of male and female Olympians was perfectly equal.
THAT’S RIGHT, OLYMPIANS WERE SPLIT 50/50 EQUALLY BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN.
As for the actual games, women dominated the sports… and earned big because of it.
Not only did Simone Biles become the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history…
SHE MADE OVER $10 MILLION DOLLARS THROUGH HER SPONSORSHIPS.
Say what you will… but passion and dedication pay.
And it’s not just Biles…
Swimmer Katie Ladecky became the most decorated American woman in HISTORY…
And the United States Women’s rugby team won its first-ever medal.
Needless to say, women’s excellence will follow them everywhere, including the Olympics.
The Future Of Women’s Sports
This year proved something that so many people in sports often forget…
That women are constantly striving to exceed expectations and achieve greatness no matter what they decide to pursue.
And this year was just the tip of the iceberg… Women’s sports have so much potential. After all, entire businesses are upheld by women, including sports. (Check out this article on women in Formula One for more info!)
Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing how women in sports go on to empower other women in the future…
Build an Empire,
