The holidays are just around the corner and while you might be feeling the pressure to find the perfect gift…
Retailers are busy trying to stock the perfect products…
But Walmart is one step ahead in creating holiday deals… They start curating their selection MONTHS ahead.
Here’s how the giant retailer plans for the holidays…
Walmart Prepares Holiday Deals Months Ahead
In August, Walmart transformed a convention center into a mock-up replica of what its supercenters would look like during the holidays. The replica displays Walmart’s holiday deals during its annual meeting for the holiday shopping season.
Walmart managers are flown out to peruse aisles of Christmas decorations…
Ugly sweaters…
And gingerbread houses.
Many of the new decor items, like pink and white Christmas trees, have been updated to appeal to Gen Z shoppers.
Managers invited to this meeting are expected to share the news with their workers…
AFTER ALL, THE END-OF-YEAR HOLIDAY SEASON IS THE YEAR’S BIGGEST SHOPPING SEASON.
Retailers know that the holidays will be the busiest time of the year, but if handled well, it can bode well for the next year. Walmart feels optimistic about their holiday deals…
As the company has been one of the few retailers to grow their sales this year…
But this Christmas season is not without its challenges.
Holiday sales are anticipated to grow this year yet what customers want to buy is getting harder and harder to predict. Customers are hesitant to spend a lot of money as many reckon with the after-effects of high inflation.
What Are Customers Looking For?
According to Walmart’s customer insight team, many people begin shopping for holiday deals before Halloween. This means there’s a longer window to try and predict what people might want.
Walmart’s holiday deals heavily rely on “rollbacks” (the company’s word for discounts) to bring in holiday shoppers. So far in Q2, the company had over 7,200 rollbacks, which is more than in the same period last year.
And as for shopping for Thanksgiving…
THANKSGIVING DINNERS ARE GOING TO BE 3% CHEAPER ON AVERAGE THAN THEY WERE LAST YEAR.
The toy section is another focus for Walmart holiday deals. This year, the company is offering 25% more rollbacks for toys. Part of the toy section will highlight gifts under $25 for cash-strapped families…
Ultimately, this time of year means the entire company needs to work in tandem to create holiday deals that Walmart shoppers will love…
And if they play their cards right, they can establish customer loyalty for the year to come…
All while keeping the Holiday spirit alive.
Be Great,
