The Summer Olympics in Paris has outperformed the prior year’s viewership and Snoop Dogg has played a HUGE role. One may not think that a gangster rapper could make such an impact on a storied athletic event. Nonetheless, NBC executives acknowledge that viewers prefer the Olympic games with the Doggfather…
Based on an NBC Sports report, 34 million people have tuned into the Paris Olympics coverage.
THAT IS 79% MORE TELEVISION SPECTATORS THAN THE 2021 SUMMER GAMES IN TOKYO!
The reason? After the dismal audience response in 2021, NBC knew that this year they had to bring in the big guns…
Or rather, the big DOGG.
Strange as this decision may seem, this decision was strategic.
Although overall the Tokyo Summer Olympics flopped, a commentary segment Snoop Dogg did with Kevin Hart went viral.
So, the network added the “Gin and Juice” artist to its marketing campaigns and sideline coverage.
The subsequent results have spoken for themselves…
Snoop Dogg is the Olympics “Ambassador of Happiness”
This Summer, Snoop Dogg has been featured in many ways throughout the Paris Olympics…
From trying out some of the competitive sports…
To being captured cheering in the stands as the US tallied up gold medals…
NBC’s executive producer, Molly Solomon, commented about Snoop’s effect on the audience…
“[IT IS Snoop Dogg’s] WONDERFUL MIX OF SWAGGER AND POSITIVITY AND JUST THE CHARISMA AND VIBES ARE SO POSITIVE.”
Ultimately, even established events must bring in new and out-of-the-box approaches to stay relevant.
And apparently, people prefer watching the Olympic games laid back…
Be Great,
