AI Fails

On May 23, Elon Musk made some gigantic claims at the VivaTech 2024 conference. The Tesla CEO put a lot of stock in artificial intelligence’s impact on our lives. Specifically, he believes that technology will take all human jobs. But, we gotta ask… Has Elon seen Google’s recent AI fails?

Elon’s Latest Take on Artificial Intelligence

Despite Musk’s recent OpenAI lawsuit, the billionaire is a big believer in AI’s capabilities.

These beliefs were reflected in this quote from Elon’s Zoom speech at the Paris VivaTech conference:

“PROBABLY NONE OF US WILL HAVE A JOB… IF YOU WANT TO DO A JOB THAT’S KINDA LIKE A HOBBY, YOU CAN DO A JOB. BUT OTHERWISE, AI AND THE ROBOTS WILL PROVIDE ANY GOODS AND SERVICES THAT YOU WANT.”

Clearly, no one is arguing that we aren’t there yet. However, the question is how far off from that future exactly?

After reading the next section, we’ll let you be the judge…

Google AI Fails are More than Just a Little Off…

Several weeks ago, Google launched its AI search features that were intended to “do the work for you.”

Briefly, the tool would use artificial intelligence to create a summary of search results. That way, you wouldn’t have to dig through links for information.

Nevertheless, these results have generated some ludicrous AI fails despite its best intentions…

For example, how do you feel about this “helpful” tip to put glue on your pizza?

Humorous as AI fails like that is, there can be dangerous consequences for ones that deal with serious matters.

Such as the artificial intelligence making up news stories and quotes for Vladimir Putin…

Currently, Google is doing major damage control to both improve the feature and public perception of the brand.

With that being said, what are the realistic implications of AI use in our day-to-day lives?

The Current REALITY of AI

Aside from the slew of AI fails, there are other stats to support that we are a ways from Musk’s prediction…

According to a January MIT study, workplaces are not adopting AI tools as quickly as tech enthusiasts suggested.

This is due to artificial intelligence not being fully capable of the tasks without human involvement. Additionally, the upfront cost of implementation is still too high.

So, as much as we would all like to “have a job for fun,” we gotta stay in the grind for the time being.

Be Great,
