The future is often measured by how efficient the latest innovations make our lives. The latest version of this? Fast food delivery drones.
DoorDash is testing out a pilot program of delivery drones in the U.S. for the first time.
Will this new fleet of drones become the latest trend in food delivery?
Your Food Delivery Drones Have Arrived!
When drive-thru lanes first became popularized in the 50’s, crowds hailed this creation as the peak of efficiency in dining. Then when apps like UberEats and Doordash propped onto the market, it made diner’s lives even easier…
They didn’t even need to leave their homes for a meal!
Now the latest development in dining looks like it was taken from an episode of The Jetsons.
DoorDash’s partnership with Alphabet’s Wing drones began testing food deliveries…
By flying orders straight to the customer’s home. The program launched on March 21, 2024, and is being tested in Christianburg, Virginia….
Specifically, it is being tested with one select Wendy’s location in the city.
Although any customers interested in getting their Baconator delivered by air travel…
Must be located within 2.5 miles of the participating Wendy’s. The deliveries themselves can take between 10 and 30 minutes, with drones flying at 65mph.
Although, for group orders, some selections might be too heavy or have too much food for a single drone…
However, DoorDash stated that they will be sending up to three drones per order.
THAT’S RIGHT. YOU CAN GET YOUR PARTY ORDERS DELIVERED BY YOUR VERY OWN FLEET OF FOOD DELIVERY DRONES.
This might all sound like the stuff of science fiction, but this isn’t DoorDash’s first drone rodeo.
DoorDash Drone Success In Australia
The food delivery drone program might be just debuting in the States…
But in Australia, the initiative has been seeing incredible success.
Comparatively, DoorDash has been using drones for deliveries…
With over 60 participating merchants all over Queensland, since 2022.
THE FUTURE IS LOOKING BRIGHT FOR FOOD DELIVERY IN THE U.S.
With the controversy between how much delivery and rideshare apps pay drivers…
This could be a solution to the problems delivery companies are facing.
Who knows? Maybe the peculiarity of food delivery drones will become standard practice in 5 years.
For now, these drones serve as a reminder that the futuristic innovations aren’t in galaxies far, far away…
Right now, they’re on your doorstep.
Be Great,
