Camera-Shy

Because I had an acting career, people often ask how I overcame being camera-shy. Although I had a natural knack for remembering lines, being in front of a lens is a whole different story. But, there are several steps to hype yourself up to say lights, camera, action!

3 Steps to Overcome Being Camera-Shy

For me, starting my Hollywood career was my ticket out of the toxic situations I got myself into back home. I was extremely lucky and got my first big break pretty quickly.

The only downside of that was I had to learn the ropes quickly as well. That included powering through any doubts and reservations I felt performing in front of others.

Here are the tips that helped me get past my “camera fright.”

Understand the Value of What You Offer

For whatever reason you need to film yourself, the first step to not being camera-shy is about certainty.

You must be certain of the value of…

The product you’re trying to sell…

The joy or entertainment your performance will bring…

Or, the importance of the message you are communicating.

Convictions are the source of confidence. But, those alone are sometimes not enough and you have to dig deeper…

Know that Your Purpose is Bigger than You

As you can see, most people getting on camera is more than becoming a movie star. It is to further their purpose. Everyone has a “why” and a worthwhile cause is always going to need support from others.

AND THAT MEANS THERE IS NO TIME TO BE CAMERA-SHY!

Once you realize you have this huge responsibility, it makes it easier to get out of your comfort zone.

Nonetheless, it gets easier when you continue to show up for yourself.

Prove Yourself to YOU

Being camera-shy is a different form of not being 100% confident in yourself. You may know your value in your mind, but you also have to show it in the physical universe.

To do that, you have to do things to prove it to yourself. Doing that is simple enough. Set targets and goals for yourself and do them!

These “little wins” can be anything from doing your daily workout or calling on a new client. They show you that you do what you say; and if you say you’ll get on camera, you’ll do it!

Yet, at the end of the day, there is one more piece to this puzzle…

What to Do If You’re STILL Camera-Shy

At this point, you have established your value, defined your purpose, and proven you’re reliable…

So, what do you do if you’re still camera-shy?

DO IT ANYWAY.

It doesn’t matter if you feel silly doing it or you fumble because you are actually doing it. And that puts you head and shoulders above most people.

You can do it and the only person in your way is you.

Get out of your own way and build an empire.
