TO START, HE DIDN’T WANT TO DO THE SHOW IN THE FIRST PLACE!
I had to convince Grant to do it. And, I wanted him to take this opportunity for a couple of reasons.
- For him to reconnect with his roots and prove his ability to himself.
- To get his valuable tools to a wider audience.
But there is no way I could have foreseen what would happen and how hard it would be to motivate an Undercover Billionaire…
My First Approach to Hyping Up Grant DIDN’T WORK…
As I said, I am first in line to support Grant and push him to his full potential. So when the stress of filming began to take its toll, I responded with my most positive, cheerleader attitude.
AND WAS HE GRATEFUL? NO WAY.
In fact, Grant would say I didn’t understand and hang up on me — every night! Then, things got even worse. The COVID-19 pandemic struck the country in the middle of shooting which paused his overall progress…
For this reason, it was even harder to keep Grant motivated when “Undercover Billionaire” resumed production. That’s when I had a brilliant idea…
I Motivated an “Undercover Billionaire” with TOUGH LOVE
Up to that point, being sweetness and sunshine had gotten me nothing but hung up on. So, I used the one thing I knew fueled Grant’s motivation more than anything else…
His haters.
Now when he called, I would remind him of all the people who would love to see him fail this challenge.
I would go through the list reciting their first and last names. By the time I would get to the third or fourth each night, Grant would say “Okay. Okay. I got it.”
HE WOULD STILL HANG UP ON ME, BUT HE WAS DETERMINED TO KEEP GOING.
In the end, he succeeded in the show’s challenge, despite all the odds.
And that is the real story behind how I motivated Grant Cardone during “Undercover Billionaire.” The lesson here is that you can do anything…
You just may need some unconventional support.
