On Nov 2, 2023, fans of the Fab Four got a new Beatles song after years of waiting. This milestone was made possible thanks to the power of AI. Despite tech playing an instrumental role in this release, this music has been waiting to be released since the 1970s…
The “Last Beatles Song” Four Decades in the Making
The Beatles are arguably one of the most influential rock bands ever. From their debut in the 1960s to their dissolution in 1974, the members wrote legendary music — together and individually.
Needless to say, the Liverpool quartet made an indelible mark on future musicians and fans.
HOWEVER, JOHN LENNON DIED IN 1980 AND GEOrGE HARRISON PASSED IN 2001.
That meant there was never going to be a new Beatles song ever again…
Or so everyone thought.
Then in June, original band member, Paul McCartney, told the BBC there would be a “last Beatles song.”
On top of that, every one of their iconic voices would be heard. They just had to wait 45 years to make the recording a reality…
How AI Helped the Fab Four “Come Together”
In 1980, John Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, presented a cassette to McCartney from the late rhythm guitarist.
THE TAPE WAS LABELED, “FOR PAUL,” AND CONTAINED SEVERAL SONGS WRITTEN AND PERFORMED BY LENNON.
One of those songs was, “Now and Then.”
However, the recording was of such poor quality it was unusable for decades. But new artificial intelligence technology was able to separate the “Imagine” singer’s voice from the original and the rest is history.
Additionally, the surviving members were able to add Harrison’s vocals from previous studio sessions.
Furthermore, the song is on track to top the charts in the UK…
So, does this mean that we will hear more new music from deceased rock royalty?
What Beatles Song “Now and Then” Means for the Future
Unfortunately, this successful new Beatles song does not mean we’ll hear more from the likes of Hendrix or Joplin…
So no robot jobs for musicians yet.
Nevertheless, it does open the door to save long-lost music for us to enjoy. That is definitely “Something” to celebrate.
Be Great,
