According to Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, NFTs are well on their way to Instagram.

At SXSW 2022, Mark Zuckerberg virtually sat down with Shark Tank star Daymond John for the conference session ‘Into the Metaverse: Creators, Commerce, and Connection‘.

Within the conversation, he shared Instagram plans that immediately caught the attention of the NFT (non-fungible token) community.

Mark Zuckerberg: “We are working on bringing NFTs to Instagram in the near term”

Although Zuckerberg didn’t provide specific dates, he confirmed that NFTs are indeed coming to Instagram “over the next several months.”

He added that “over time” there are hopes that creators will “be able to mint things within that environment.”

In terms of metaverse plans for Meta, Zuckerberg also mentioned:

“Long-term, I would hope that the clothing that your avatar is wearing in the metaverse can be minted as an NFT.”
