Hard work, tenacity, grit, and courage are the intangible resources you need to create anything meaningful in life. 

But when you are just starting out, resources like those can seem hard to come by.

I assure you, though, that if you dig deep inside yourself, you can find the items you need to create a lasting impact with the empire of your dreams.

None of these tools cost any money. But to achieve the results you desire, you have to be willing to put in the work. No excuses allowed.

So, here is the roadmap. The rest is up to you. 

Build Your Empire with these 10 Free Strategies

1. Awareness

You cannot build an empire blindly. It takes attention and all your wits about you.

Therefore, no matter the context, you must be aware of your surroundings at all times. Observe the people in your circle, the places you go, and the activities you perform.

To develop a higher sense of awareness, keep the following questions in mind:

  • Is the event you are attending right now helping you reach your full potential?
  • How does this project make you feel? Is it aligned with your values and purpose?
  • Do the fellow women in your community empower you to become the best version of yourself?

The more aware you become, the better equipped you will be to approach challenges, audit goals when necessary, and form the right network.

2. Commitment

When doing the work gets difficult, your dedication to your empire will be your light at the end of the tunnel.

Your unflinching commitment has a dual purpose. On one hand, it will help you stay on track with your goals. On the other hand, it will guide your personal growth in the process. 

At the end of the day, the empire you are building is yours. Make it count by fully committing.

3. Discipline

Your mindset has the power to create or destroy your empire. Every time you decide to persist — no matter how tired you feel — you are signaling to your psyche and the universe that the only way you are moving is forward. 

This very mindset will lay the foundation for your confidence, motivation, and — most importantly — discipline. All these qualities require time, effort, and consistency.

To build discipline, start with small, simple challenges, such as:

  • Waking up one hour earlier each morning to study content on personal development
  • Performing light exercises for 30 minutes every evening, like stretching or jogging
  • Journaling three times a week to check in with your empire-building progress

Get the tasks done, no matter what. Hold yourself accountable for your actions and decisions, even if the first ones are baby steps.

Over time, you will be able to move on to bigger goals and better results.

4. Purpose

Your “why” gives you the passion, strength, and motivation to fight for it all. 

When you feel stuck, lost, or on the verge of giving up, your purpose will be your North Star. It is your reason for waking up in the morning and following through on your mission. 

As long as you keep your “why” at the forefront of your mind, nothing will be able to stop you.

To find your purpose, go deep and ask yourself questions like:

  • Why are you doing this, really?
  • Who are you helping?
  • What is the mark you want to leave on this world?

Once you have figured out what your true purpose is, beyond money or material possessions, the rest of these tools fall into place.

5. Plan

What are the exact steps you need to take to build your empire? Do you know?

You can have the greatest goals in the world. However, without a definite plan of action in place, it will be extremely difficult to achieve them.

Here are some pointers to help you map out the big plan:

  • Organize your goals as short, medium, and long term.
  • Establish the necessary steps to complete each stage of goals.
  • Set deadlines and hold yourself to them.

Treat your empire like the most important project you will ever work on — because it is. 

6. Ethics

Having a personal code of conduct is not just for the benefit of others. Above all, your ethics are for yourself. 

When the most challenging moments of building an empire come around, your values will guide you. 

And while ethics and core values are unique to every individual, here are a few powerful examples that could inspire you:

  • Integrity
  • Gratitude
  • Respect
  • Being of service to others

Whatever they might be in your case, make sure you apply these values in your personal life as well as in your business.

In any context, a code of conduct will remind you what you stand for. 

7. Sacrifices

You can’t achieve greatness without sacrifice. 

So, what are you willing to give up to have the empire you deserve?

Beliefs

Take some time to reflect on any outdated beliefs that could be holding you back:

  • Do you have an unhealthy relationship with money? Even prejudices toward the people who have it?
  • Do you put off hiring new team members because you do not trust people?
  • Do you struggle with forming and maintaining relationships due to old-fashioned stereotypes about men or other women?

Audit your beliefs as you would your company. Any ideas that no longer serve you in the journey of building your empire must go.

Habits

Drinking. Partying. Eating poorly. None of these actions will pave your way to success.

Similar to outworn beliefs, bad habits will only slow down your journey. 

Think of it this way. Would you rather have some Friday night cocktails and an expensive credit card tab? Or financial freedom that will empower you to build generational wealth for your family?

The choice is yours. But keep in mind that empire-building requires a clear head. You can’t afford to waste a day on something as foolish as nursing a hangover.

Things

Depending on where you are in life, material possessions will be some of the easier sacrifices on your list.

Some common examples of “things” that do not support most people’s empire-building plan include:

  • TV
  • Clutter
  • Video game console
  • Unflattering wardrobe

Think about the items you own and analyze their purpose in the greater scheme of things. 

Do these things help you make more money or become a better person?

If not, get rid of the products just as you would eliminate unhelpful beliefs or habits.

8. Counsel

You can’t build an empire alone, no matter how dedicated you are to your mission. 

Let your accountant be your accountant. Let your personal trainer be your personal trainer. 

Allow professionals to help you — but only in their areas of expertise. 

Your accountant cannot help you learn how to be more connected with your partner. Your personal trainer does not have the business insights you need to make your first million.

Build your counsel and take only what specific information you need from each specialist.

9. Court

While your counsel has your go-to experts, your royal court is represented by the people in your inner circle. 

Close friends, family, coworkers and the individuals you spend the most time with have a major influence on your empire. Therefore, you should be highly selective about your court.

Cut out toxic people. Cultivate relationships with loyal friends. When the time comes to defend your empire, the real ones will be there to help you. 

10. Fun

All work and no play is a fast way to give up. So, as you build the empire you have always dreamed of, take the time to enjoy success along the way.

Although the journey is long, hard, and challenging, none of your efforts would be worth it if work sucked all the joy from life. 

However, do not take the idea of fun the wrong way. What I am talking about is good, clean fun. Play games with your children. Make your partner laugh. Have a blast with your loved ones — your royal court.

You will be amazed to see what opportunities life presents when you lighten up and enjoy the ride.

  1. Sketch out your tools. What does your toolbox look like?
  2. Write out who you are and who you would like to become:
    • What are your strengths and weaknesses?
    • Who do you want in your life? 
    • What is your purpose, your mission?
    • Where can you go out of your way to make others laugh?
  3. Make a plan with a timeline:
    • What areas do you want to improve in your business, relationships, and yourself?
    • How will you strengthen your weaknesses?
    • When will you work on these goals?
    • How will you measure your progress and success?

That’s all there is to it. And when the going gets tough, remember why you are in this for the long run.
