Starbucks is a 30-year old company that sells coffee all over the world. The stick, called a ‘coffee stopper’ is designed to prevent spilled from the plastic cup top, but was only introduced 5 years ago. That means Starbucks was in business for 25 years before introducing something so seemingly obvious. They did not come up with the idea. One of their customers suggested it on their bulletin board, and they went with it.
The lesson: The obvious is still waiting to be invented. Your job is to be thinking about it. And you cannot be thinking about anything creative unless you’re in ‘positive zone’.
Most people are in a negative zone. Don’t be worried about the news, the wars, the weather that brings you down—you will never be creative.
