Today, I want to talk to you about sacrifice.

Because – if you want to achieve big goals – sacrifice is part of the deal.  Trouble is…

Most people don’t realize the amount they must give up… or what they must sacrifice.

The good news is you don’t need to sacrifice everything that brings you joy.  In fact, if you cut out some pleasures, you could actually hurt your mission.

Not a lot of people know this…

But back in the day, my father was a world champion shooter.  I was practically raised on the shooting range.

Looking at me you might not think it… but I adore pistols, rifles, and shotguns.

If I had wanted to become a world-class shooter, I could have done it.  But I gave up shooting for my kids, for Grant, and for my purpose.

I’ll tell you why in a second.

But first I’ll tell you about my other passion… and why I haven’t sacrificed this passion like I sacrificed shooting.

It’s called Mixed Martial Arts (or MMA for short).

If you don’t know MMA… perhaps you’ve heard of cage fighting, no holds barred, or ultimate fighting.

Whatever you call it, MMA is intense.  To get good at MMA, I train 4 or 5 times a week.  Each training session lasts up to two hours.

It means I often spend 10 hours a week learning to fight like a badass.

That’s a lot of hours.

I don’t blame you for thinking I should sacrifice MMA… and spend those hours expanding my empire.

There’s a reason why I don’t.

One time, I climbed into the ring with this sparring partner.  He was a mountain of a man.

He swung punches in my face.  And he kicked me in the knees.  In short, he didn’t hold back because he was sparring with a woman.

That experience was a gift for my purpose!

Nowadays, I can speak on stage in front of thousands of people.

I can square up to the enemies I find inside my empire.

I can even face multi-million-dollar lawsuits.

None of those things scare me like being punched in the face during that MMA fight!

With the skills I’ve learned through MMA, I have the confidence to handle anything.

Which is why I do not sacrifice MMA.  Shooting on the other hand?

It took me away from my kids on weekends.  It required hours of dedication and commitment.

No matter how hard I tried, the lessons I learned did not spill over to my life and business.

Shooting did not feed my purpose.  So I had to make the sacrifice.

And that is how you know if the pleasures you sacrifice will expand or destroy your empire.
