This week Grant is talking with Mike Michalowicz, who is a 42-year old CEO of Provendus Group, a consulting firm that ignites explosive growth in companies that have plateaued. He is a former small business columnist for The Wall Street Journal; is MSNBC’s business make-over expert; is a keynote speaker on entrepreneurship; and is the author of Profit First. Grant and Mike discuss how arrogance can take a Power Player down, and what it takes to build back up from zero. “Profit is not an event. Profit is a habit.” – Mike Michalowicz Mike Michalowicz grew up in Northern Jersey without any entrepreneurial influences from his family. They taught him to get one job and stick with it for life. He turned that into getting one job, and that one job is the company that you own. Passion gets you excited, but purpose is what you need to do in life before you die. On the surface passion seems important, but you have to go deeper to something that is bigger than yourself. Once you know your purpose in life, build a business around that. Ask yourself what your purpose is and do it every day until you find it. “The most important thing that ever happened to me was losing everything and being on the brink of bankruptcy.” – Mike Michalowicz Mike admits that at the age of 35 he arrogantly began a ‘pump and dump’ tactic after selling two successful companies. He had to go home and face his family to tell them that their quality of life was stolen away by his arrogance. “Well-dressed poverty is still poverty. Just because you act like the big man on campus means you are.” – Mike Michalowicz Listen to the entire show or podcast to hear Mike’s full story and a detailed explanation of his purpose.
