Meta Glasses

During Meta’s annual Connect Conference, they announced arguably their biggest product to date: Meta’s Orion AR Glasses.

While this product won’t be on the market for a while,

What Meta revealed at the conference begs the question:

Can augmented reality glasses one day replace smartphones?

The Meta Orion Glasses

The Meta Orion augmented reality glasses have the ability to change the personal tech landscape as we know it…

The glasses essentially use augmented reality and generative AI to create visuals as “holograms” for the user. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO…

Believes that the Meta glasses will be used to communicate with each other by using digital information expressed in the real world.

The project, which has been in the works for over 10 years, is not the first of its kind. In reality, AR glasses have faced a long and tumultuous road, with many glasses not succeeding due to the same issues:

  • The glasses were too hot
  • The weight of the glasses was uncomfortable for users
  • The visuals were low-resolution
  • And the field-of-view for the images was too small

All in all, the AR glasses of the past failed to deliver on the promise of the product.

Luckily, Meta has been quietly working to overcome these barriers in glasses.

NOW, THE DEMOS OF META’S GLASSES SHOWED THAT THIS TECHNOLOGY, BOTH IN ITS HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE, WAS LEAGUES ABOVE ITS PREDECESSORS.

Some of the uses for Meta’s glasses included scanning ingredients and creating recipes out of what you scanned…

Playing 3D pong…

And communicating through video calls.

The product is controlled through a combination of eye movements, hand movements, voice demands, and a neural wristband. This wristband helps the hand tracking command the technology.

While Meta’s glasses are not headed to stores anytime soon due to how expensive and complicated they are to create…

It seems like it’s only a matter of time before they become the next hot tech product.

A Changing Landscape

Mark Zuckerberg is betting that the Meta glasses will be a new wave in personal technology.

Instead of hauling around a laptop or a smartphone, Zuckerberg believes that the computers of the future will be wearable…

AND HE’S NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS SO.

Many of the largest tech companies in the world are making the same bet. After all, Apple already put out the Apple Vision Pro…

The company’s first wearable headset operating system with this future in mind.

Ultimately, only time will tell if the meta glasses have any staying power…

Or if it is just going to be the latest version of the 2013 Google Glass fiasco.

Be Great,
