Last month, Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against General Motors. The reason? Misleading customers into handing over their driver data and then selling it. Although it is being tried in Lone Star State, the alleged effects of GM’s actions are nationwide.

GENERAL MOTORS JUST SO HAPPENS TO BE THE FIRST ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK.
As we mentioned earlier, this is not a case of being careless with customer information like the infamous 23andMe situation. Paxton believes that consumers were manipulated into disclosing more than they intended…

But, how exactly did they do this?
How to Know if YOU Were Affected? And For How Long?
According to the Attorney General’s office filings, GM customers who bought models from 2015 on may be affected.
This is because that is when they started enrolling buyers in programs that collect driver data like OnStar. In turn, the information collected was sold to insurance companies which was used to determine their rates.
There has been no official ruling on the matter yet. However, depending on the outcome of this case, you might have been compromised.
We will keep you updated on the lawsuit. And, review your paperwork if you bought a General Motors after 2015.
