If you’ve ever taken a flight with your pets, you know how tedious and stressful the whole process can be. But thanks to a new boutique airline, Bark Air, you and your furry friends can fly to your destinations in style.
Bark Air is a brand-new airline “designed specifically for dogs first and their human companions second.”
And the whole initiative was started thanks to one man and his experiences flying with his dog.
Bark Air Cleared For Liftoff
On May 23, 2024, Bark Air took its inaugural flight from New York City to Los Angeles. Six pooches were joined by their human companions and flight crew on a trip designed to give man’s best friend the “white paw” experience.
During the flight, the pets were treated with their favorite treats…
Including chicken-flavored pupaccinos.
Flight attendants were trained in dog CPR as well as “fear-free behavioral practices…”
But thankfully the flight went as smoothly as possible…
With most pups quickly falling asleep after their in-flight meals.
As bizarre as it sounds, Bark Air is a real airline that is a subsidiary of BARK…
A brand that develops dog-focused goodies as well as their main product, BarkBox, a monthly dog treat subscription box.
Matt Meeker, CEO and Co-founder of the company, was inspired by flights with his late Great Dane to improve the experience of flight for all dogs. While traveling, because of his dog’s size, oftentimes Meeker’s pup would have to fly in the cargo area.
IT TOOK MEEKER OVER TEN YEARS OF PLANNING TO TURN BARK AIRLINES INTO A REALITY.
While it looks like a private flight service for dogs might not seem like the most successful venture…
Despite its expensive price tag…
Dog owners are flocking to get their tickets booked.
Dog Owners Jumping At The Opportunity
While tickets for domestic Bark Airlines flights start at $6,000 with international flights going up to $8,000 (for both dogs and human companions combined)…
DEMAND FOR THE NEW AIRLINE HAS NOT COOLED
For now, Bark Air is offering four cross-country flights per month…
But the company has already received over 15,000 requests for new routes, more dates, and more planes.
In fact, the company has already had to publish its flight schedule through the end of the year to keep up with demand.
According to Meeker, the airline’s main priority is to give dogs and their owners an experience that they’ll never forget.
In the face of growing restrictions for pets and service animals on planes…
As well as the growing issues in the airline industry…
IT MAKES SENSE THAT PASSENGERS WOULD WANT THEIR FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS TO BE AS PAMPERED AND CATERED TO AS THEY WOULD BE.
While this kind of flight is still a while away from being institutionally accepted…
Bark Air goes to show that when you are devoted to delivering a good quality product, you’ll find your audience…
Even if that audience is covered in fur and chases after squirrels.
Be Great,
