When you talk about the benefits of investing in real estate as much as I do, people are going to come to you for advice. One of the most common questions I get is, “what age should you start investing?”

There are definitely a lot of opinions on the subject, and I have added my two cents over the years.

Finally, I think I have what age you should start investing figured out.

After more than 30 years of being a real estate investor, this is what I have determined.

Your first investment

First of all, I don’t want any of you to be discouraged from investing, no matter if you’re young or old. However, this asset right here is what is going to ensure all your future success. The great thing is you can start investing in it at any age.

The first investment you should make is in yourself.

You need to invest in yourself until your skills produce more and more income. Once you become confident in your skills, you will be able to predict these future increases and eventual surpluses.

Those surpluses are what you will use to invest in real estate.

THIS is what age I would start investing if I could do it all over again

For me, the age I would have started investing in would have been 25. I had several factors that contributed to why this was the ideal age for me.

  • My personal life had become stable. (Overcame struggles with drugs.)
  • Had become the #1 salesperson at my company. (Surplus of income and confidence in my skills.)

In conclusion, the best age to start investing is when you have sufficiently invested in yourself and have the money to play the real estate game the right way.

The right age for you may be different than me, but the mindset is the same.
