The summer is over. Businesses of all sizes are cranking up for their fourth quarter, hoping to finish the year in a massive way. Now is clearly not the time to let your energy level slip. Even if the summer crushed you and your passion for work isn’t enough to drive you, you cannot afford to disengage—even for a second. Sustained energy and razor-sharp ninja focus comes from within, not from a caffeinated beverage or other external stimulants. Here are six ways to help you develop a massive energy core: 1. Create a “No Negativity” policy at home and work. The people who work around me know negativity will not be tolerated around me. That doesn’t mean I don’t want information and to hear everyone out, but negative talk like, “We can’t do that,” or, “That’s impossible,” is not allowed. My companies all have a “No Negativity” operating policy, because that kind of thinking does not energize people and motivate them to find solutions. You must implement this at home with your spouse and children. Everyone can speak about their concerns, but they must remain positive and moving towards resolutions for these obstacles, not wasting time complaining to just share negative ideas and thoughts. 2. Maintain a supportive power base. You need to surround yourself with positive and supportive people. You might join clubs or organizations where you are all doing something you’re excited about. Also, make sure to get your family on the same page with you. If your spouse, parents, children or even siblings celebrate your wins with you, it will go a long way toward keeping you motivated and energetic—long after you would have maintained it alone. My wife will break out in the Running Man dance when I report a closed deal or other positive and exciting news! 3. Get a good night’s sleep. Hey, it sounds simple, but I’ve had a lot of people tell me they only sleep four hours a night so they can hustle more, but I don’t recommend it. Those who do may get away with it for a while, but without the proper amount of sleep you won’t be as productive, creative, or resilient over the long run. The body and mind need rest to recharge. I try to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night, but still make sure to get up fist thing in the morning. If you’re going to be up at 4 AM, make sure you’re going to be in bed by 9 PM. 4. Write your goals down twice a day. Make a list of your goals when you wake up in the morning and again before you go to bed. This will help you stay focused on what you want and why you want it. I’m not talking about a to-do list; I mean the massive goals in life you are trying to accomplish: why you are going to work and what you are trying to achieve. Focusing on these major goals will help fuel your passion and energy. 5. Exercise daily. Regular physical exercise will energize you and give you a sense of direction, control and power. A good cardio or strength exercise in the morning will increase your belief in yourself, get the adrenaline flowing, and increase your stamina for the rest of the day. During my workouts I try to include some inspirational audio so I am working my mind while working my body. 6. Dress for success. Dressing sharp will change the way you view yourself and will increase your confidence. This confidence will reflect in the way others view you. Dress in a manner that suggests that you are proud, prepared, and successful. People appreciate it when you make an effort to look professional. Their admiration will provide the kind of positive energy needed to sustain you through a challenging day. Remember, you will always face obstacles and challenges. If you maintain a high energy level it will enable you to power through the rough patches—this overcoming of obstacles is what forges the greatest entrepreneurs. Let me know in the comments what obstacles you’ve overcome. Be great, GC
